Jennian Homes Mothers Day 5k

Mother's-Day-5k.jpgA five-kilometre run might not be the most relaxing Mother’s Day gift, but the first Sunday in May this year will see hundreds of women around New Zealand doing just that, in the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day 5k. We launched the event in Nelson in 2009, inspired by the Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign – which celebrates the energy, passion and power women have to band together to beat heart disease.

The fun run and walk has grown in popularity. So much so that 2011 sees us begin stage one of a nationwide rollout. For the first time, women in Northland, Whakatane and Nelson will take part on Mother’s Day (8 May) this year, and more events are in the pipeline around the rest of the country.

Though the emphasis on the day is about fun, the message is serious: women need to take the time to care for themselves to make them healthy and strong, so they can keep on caring for their families.
