QR codes help Cantabrians rebuild

Cutting edge technology on display in a Lincoln show home is helping Cantabrians make the big decisions about rebuilding their homes.

“QR codes are fast becoming the go-to method for accessing information worldwide,” says Bruce Maetzig, Managing Director of Jennian Homes Canterbury.

QR or ‘quick response’ codes are a type of two dimensional barcode. They differ from traditional barcodes in that they hold a lot more data, and can be read by smart phones and other mobile devices such as iPads.

“When visitors come to the show home our hostess issues them with an iPad and explains how to use it,” says Bruce.

“As they walk around the home, they scan QR codes located next to appliances and materials that they want to learn more about.”

The data collates and a personalised catalogue is sent out to the visitors, complete with all the information they want about the products and services that interested them in the home.

“I hope Cantabrians will embrace the technology,” says Bruce. “It’s easy to use and the information it provides will really help people working through decisions about how they rebuild their homes.”

The home, built in conjunction with Future-Proof Building, showcases building techniques, products and appliances designed to improve lifestyle and conserve resources.

Future-Proof Building offers independent advice to home owners, helping them create homes that are better to live in today and will be worth more in the future.

The show home is located at 16 Tauhunu Street, Lincoln, Christchurch. Open from 12pm-4pm weekends, and by appointment weekdays.
