Jennian Homes Mother’s Day 5k
Walking tracks from Whangarei to Invercargill were a sea of red on Sunday as women from around the country turned out in force to celebrate Mother’s Day and support the Heart Foundation. Check out the photos from your local event. Can you spot yourself?
What's it all about?
The Jennian Homes Mother’s Day 5k fun run and walk, which supports the Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign, was held in 17 locations around the country for the first time this year. For many busy mums, nothing is more of a treat on Mother’s Day than spending quality time with their daughters, or taking a little time out for themselves. The Jennian Homes Mother’s Day 5k walk or run, which began in Nelson in 2009, is now a national event—offering women around the country the chance to have fun, get active, and support a worthy cause. It’s a fun event and women of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate. While the day is focused on enjoyment, there is a serious message too. Heart disease is the biggest killer of women in New Zealand. Jennian Homes says the event, which supports the Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign, is about reminding women to take time out to look after their health so they can keep on caring for their families in the future.

A thank you from Dame Jenny Shipley
March 2011
To Jennian Homes Management and Staff,
I wanted to send a personal message to thank you all for your on-going commitment to the Heart Foundation’s Go Red For Women campaign. Since 2008, we have enjoyed the support of Jennian Homes in our on-going drive to improve the heart health of all New Zealand women through education and research. Jennian Homes has led from the front and has been the key sponsor of our national annual series of Go Red For Women Breakfasts which will next be held in September 2011. Some Jennian franchisees also initiate fundraising activities in their local area to support the cause. Heart disease is the single biggest killer of New Zealand women. Equally alarming is that research shows 74% of New Zealand women are unaware of this statistic. Go Red for Women is working to raise awareness among women and their families and stop deaths that are often premature and preventable. Through Go Red For Women, the Heart Foundation is creating a movement that shows women nationwide how to reduce their risk of heart disease and live longer, healthier lives. The Heart Foundation dedicates all funds raised through Go Red For Women into improving heart disease awareness amongst women and dedicated women’s heart health research. The support of our key sponsor, Jennian Homes, ultimately provides researchers into heart disease prevention with more resources for their vital work.
I look forward to continuing to work with you all as we strive to make a real difference to the lives of New Zealanders.
Together we will beat heart disease.
Kind regards
Dame Jenny Shipley
